Oracle MKIII: 2024 Updated Configuration and Tuning

The OG Oracle and Oracle MKII were THIEAUDIO’s interpretation of budget tri-brid studio monitors. They were aimed to provide the most professional studio monitor tunings and technical resolutions at the most affordable price. Since then, THIEAUDIO has introduced several exciting, technological innovations into the Oracle series. The bass drivers have been updated to bring a stronger sub-bass presence. The tuning has also been modified to reflect customer feedback from the past two years with a more natural delivery and engaging listening session.

IMPACT2 Subwoofer System

The Oracle MKIII features the latest IMPACT2 subwoofer system from THIEAUDIO. IMPACT2 is a Dual-Dynamic driver system configured in an isobaric design to significantly enhance sub bass quantity and texture. Thanks to IMPACT2, the bass response of the Oracle MKIII is significantly stronger, tighter, and better textured than its predecessors.

Professional Studio Tuning

Keeping in line with its DNA, the Oracle MKIII retains its tuning profile as a true studio monitor. The bass has been restricted to the sub-bass shelf to provide plenty of thump for drummers and bass guitarists, while keeping the mids flat and neutral. Instruments and vocals are perfectly positioned and layered thanks to neutral midrange and a comprehensive 4-way crossover system. The treble has been modified to be smoother than the Oracle MKII predecessor, a common critique. However, the Oracle MKIII still takes full advantage of the 2 Sonion EST tweeters to deliver all of the micro-details and upper treble extension.

4-Way Crossover + 3 Sound Tubes

The Oracle MKIII features a comprehensive 4-way crossover tuning system, a feature that initially set THIEAUDIO apart from the industry. Thanks to THIEAUDIO's passive crossover network and (x3) independent sound bores for each driver type, the Oracle MKIII features excellent layering, imaging, and instrument separation in its mix.

Updated Modular Cable System

The Oracle MKIII comes standard with their latest modular cable system, providing all three (4.4mm, 3.5mm, 2.5mm) major terminations to use with their devices.

Complimentary Hype

I have not heard the previous Oracle iterations, but I’ve been very happy with this set. The Oracle mk3 is my go to for live recordings and classic rock (particularly yacht and 70s rock). I also have the Hype 10 and will use it for some comparisons. I find the sets to be slightly more complementary for my tastes.

The bass is elevated, but nowhere near bass head levels. It’s full and adds a little warmth with minimal bleed. It doesn’t quite have the punch or excitement of the hype 10, but for a good portion of my library i prefer the oracle mk3. There’s plenty of texture too and bass lines like sultans of swing or walk on the wild side sound nice and full.

The midrange and treble are balanced and very enjoyable. I prefer the vocals on the Oracle mk3 to some of my other sets. The midrange may not be as clean (can lack a little bite) as the hype series, but the smoothness/warmth without loss of detail is exactly what I was hoping for. There’s good treble extension. Detail is comparable with the hype 10, but I’d probably give the hype 10 an edge overall. The Oracle mk3 is a little more airy with a more open stage.

The Oracle mk3 was exactly what I was looking for as compliment to some of my other sets (mest mk2, hype 10, Ej07m). I have not heard some of its direct competitors (Mega5est, Oracle mk1, etc), and I’d argue for most folks the hype 4 would probably be a better choice as an all rounder. I do find the Oracle mk3 to be an improvement in most areas over the hype 4 (detail, stage, extension). It’s just a little more neutral, less universal tuning. That said, if you’re in the market for a more neutral sub kilobuck set with great vocals and warm full bass it’s worth trying. I’d get it again in heartbeat.
