I think the Aegis is criminally underrated with what you get for the price. Although it’s technically a two driver IEM, realistically it’s a single full range DD with a BCD enhancing everything the DD does. So, you get all the benefits of a single driver IEM. The bass is tight and controlled. The BCD makes the bass big and wide, without any boominess. The mids benefit from the BCD even more, and really stand out. The highs don’t have the airiness or sparkle of an electrostatic, but still sound good for a bass head set. There’s also a surprising amount of detail. It’s worth noting the Aegis is not a Legion missing the electret driver. It uses a different DD than the Legion, made specifically for the Aegis. There’s a lot more I could say, but this is long enough already. The Aegis is easily my favorite bass head IEM right now. It’s just fun to listen to for not only the right music, but movies and games too. Being under $500 is a steal. My review is based on a listening setup consisting of a Bifrost 2 DAC, Black Ice Audio tube preamp, Asgard X class A headphone amp using the balanced output, and Divinus Wide Bore ear tips.
This set is fun, lots of bass but still very detailed. The bone conduction really makes the soundstage feel holographic. Very comfortable fit and feels premium.
I have been listening to aegis for a little while now and it is one of the most addictive sounding iems I have ever heard. It is an experience and when they say a cathedral soundstage they mean it! Not sure how it stacks up against the legion but I don’t really care haha. This by far the best implementation of bone conduction I have ever heard. Actual tactical feedback coming from the driver. Smooth, warm, spacious and more engaging than some iems in the $2000 price range. Also the included cable is top notch, the ear tips are eletech baroque, and the leather case is luxurious. I am so happy with this purchase and have no regrets. Thank you bloom for a smooth transaction as always!
The aegis is good enough and needs no peq. But the origin is still better but you're going to pay double the amount.
This is it. This is the upgrade to the hidden gem that is BQEYZ Wind. Aegis is a superb blend of proprietary drivers consisting of a 11.3mm dynamic driver and a 10mm bone conduction driver, working in *tandem* to produce a dense, warm, natural and physical tactile sound with great vocal power and vocal extension behind it. The bone conduction here is extremely visceral and really brings another dimension to the sound reproduction. The highs are more conventional and subtle given the otherwise superlative aspects of the sound, namely the bass and mids which actively takes the spotlight and thus your attention. Together, the soundscape produced is huge and more importantly, feels huge.
It is a set that anyone should have in their IEM stable, given how affordable it is, relatively speaking.
Sound, fit, isolation, quality of materials and aethetics are all top-notch and truly belies the price point.
