Sound as Brilliant as Starlight
From the arrangement of every driver to the final voicing, CLARUS was engineered and tuned to that belief. It was developed and voiced on Astell&Kern reference systems, and tuned together with their flagship SP4000T player, so that what you hear is the true spirit of Astell&Kern.
Named after the star in "Astell," CLARUS was voiced to shine with the same quality a star does, clear, pure, and unwavering. Rather than highlighting one frequency or enhancing another, CLARUS delivers natural clarity evenly across the entire spectrum. It doesn't color the music or draw attention to specific details, it simply lets the recording speak for itself.
Tribrid Driver Architecture
CLARUS is built on a precisely harmonized 9-driver tribrid architecture that combines a proprietary dynamic driver, seven Sonion balanced armatures, and a silicon MEMS tweeter within a single, coherent system. Each element was developed for its distinct role and tuned through precise control of phase, pressure, and motion.
Its design reflects the same discipline that governs its form. Every contour, cavity, and circuit exists to serve acoustic integrity. The structure is shaped by performance, the performance defined by structure. Nothing is decorative, nothing is redundant.
Every driver operates within its natural range, contributing its character without interference. No forced equalization. No artificial enhancement. Only precision through purpose.

Low-Frequency System
Bass and lower midrange are driven by a three-driver hybrid low-frequency system, combining a proprietary 9 mm dynamic driver with a dual Sonion balanced armature array.
The 9 mm dynamic driver operates from 20–200 Hz, delivering sub-bass depth, extension, and natural physical weight. The dual Sonion armature array operates from 80–500 Hz, reinforcing speed, articulation, and structural definition through the upper bass and lower midrange.
All three drivers are housed within a shared pressure-coupled chamber, allowing air movement, acoustic pressure, and crossover behavior to be controlled as one integrated low-frequency system.
Midrange Array
Core midrange and presence are handled by a three-driver Sonion balanced armature array, tuned for tonal balance and natural presence. A dual Sonion midrange armature operates from 500 Hz to 2 kHz, shaping vocal body, tonal density, and natural midrange weight.
A dedicated Sonion balanced armature operates from 800 Hz to 7 kHz, extending clarity, harmonic structure, and presence-region definition. Together, the midrange array maintains continuity from lower mids into upper mids, preserving vocal placement, instrumental separation, and articulation through the center of the frequency range.
High-Frequency System
The high-frequency system pairs a top-firing silicon MEMS tweeter with two Sonion high-frequency balanced armatures, creating a hybrid treble section designed for speed, output, and extension.
Within CLARUS, the MEMS tweeter operates from 7–10 kHz, bringing semiconductor-level precision to the upper registers. Its monolithic silicon structure delivers exceptional speed, phase stability, and part-to-part consistency, producing fine detail with a level of focus and control beyond conventional driver designs.
The paired Sonion high-frequency armatures operate from 9–15 kHz, with response extending to 20 kHz, reinforcing treble output, air, intelligibility, and spatial extension while maintaining low distortion across the upper registers.
Material + Design Engineering
Shell
CLARUS features a CNC-machined shell crafted from aerospace-grade 6061-T6 aluminum and finished in anodized silver. The main body follows an organic ergonomic form, shaped for natural fit and stable contact within the ear.
Its geometry is engineered for stiffness and resonance control, and the housing is defined by precision machining, structural integrity, and a clean industrial form. The alloy’s low density provides comfort while preserving strength and balance.
Faceplate
The shell transitions into a multi-faceted faceplate, where precision-cut planes create depth, contrast, and controlled reflection across the surface. The anodized silver finish emphasizes the material character of the aluminum, highlighting the sharp geometry of the faceplate and the smooth curvature of the shell.
Ergonomic Form
The shell follows an organic ergonomic form, sculpted for natural fit and stable contact within the ear. Every curve transitions smoothly from the faceted faceplate into the body of the housing. Machined to precise tolerances, the form balances comfort, isolation, and structural integrity, completing CLARUS as a single continuous industrial statement.
