Bathys Dune: Step Into the Light

Focal has designed a luminous finish to join the Bathys collection, in contrast with the existing Black Silver finish and catering to its customers’ differing tastes. Applied to the headphones in their entirety, the carrying case and the cables, the Dune finish is inspired by quarry minerals, Greek landscapes and desert sands – in short, delicate spaces flooded with light. It combines a beige colour with silver details (grilles, rings, etc.) for an elegant, mellow and harmonious finish.

Two modes of active noise cancellation are available: a Silent mode, optimized for trips with high background noise (planes, trains, etc.) and a Soft mode to aid concentration at home, in the office, etc. In addition, a Transparency mode enables you to stay connected to your surroundings.

Its fast-charging feature gives you 5 additional battery hours in 15 minutes of charging. A full charge only takes 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The Bathys design is inherited from Focal’s open- and closed-back headphones. The earcup grilles pick up Focal’s design code, with its highly aesthetic curves. Focal’s flame symbol features at the centre of the earcup, incorporating a white backlight system to be activated if desired, for an understated, chic effect. Another standout feature of Bathys is its elegant and timeless Black Silver color way.

In terms of sound, the Aluminum/Magnesium ‘M’-shaped dome speaker drivers – made in France in our ateliers – give the headphones an audio quality that’s unrivaled in its category. Our speaker drivers, equipped with patented Focal technology, have been slightly revamped to adapt to the constraints of a portable set of headphones – they are now lighter with a smaller volume. The result is a clear, dynamic and very precise sound, while retaining a sound signature that is optimized for use on the move: a present, ever-controlled bass.

Focal Bathys: Exactly what I wanted, plus a great shipping experience!

With my company's recent RTO, I found myself in need of noise-cancelling headphones. I also wanted to get high-quality audio, but don't have enough disposable outcome to buy expensive Audiophile gear. After a couple days of online research, Focal Bathys sounded like the perfect fit. In the first two weeks that I've been using them, they're exactly what the other reviews claimed:
- The ANC doesn't block 100% of sound, but the vast majority of office din and background noise is blissfully absent. If you want full silence, this might not be the headphones for you.
- The audio quality is the best I've experienced yet. It's literally so good, that I could hear the compression from streaming music at the "normal" bitrate, and how Bluetooth's compression affected it further.
- For a full, over-the-ear headset, it's relatively light.
- It's comfortable enough for me to wear for 2-4 hour sessions during the workday
- It comes with its own protective travel case, and the presentation of the box itself was nice.

The only minor negatives are the periphery of the product, not the headset itself:
- The provided 3.5mm cable is far too short for my needs; had to use a longer one from a different headset. (cable connection sounds much better than Bluetooth, imo)
- Tapping the cans when adjusting the headset "tricks" the ANC, so the audio gets muted on one side for a half-second as the ANC over-corrects and then relents.
- The companion app from Focal & Naim is mid, and it only works when your phone is connected by Bluetooth. Irrelevant for my preferred usage of a 3.5mm cable.

My experience with Bloom Audio has been excellent, too! Free shipping, it arrived in only a couple of days, and I was pleasantly surprised with all of the extra stuff that came with it. A Christmas card from the team at Bloom, a "get to know me" about the person who packed and shipped my order, a Bloom sticker, a hand-written note, and a free candy bar! For a first-time customer, that went far above and beyond what I was expecting.

- Only minor nitpicks around the periphery, nothing wrong with the headset itself

Pleasantly shocked

On the first listen you’re aware that you have something unique. The sound is both detailed and alive. Even after a couple of weeks and many hours of listening I can still be shocked when listening to anything from music to video. It grabs you immediately and makes you wonder how much sound and detail you’ve missed with other equipment. A true pleasure to experience. Also a tip of the hat to the Bloom sales team. Great advice without trying to “sell you something”.
