Bloom's Take

A Planar Revolution with a Dynamic Twist

The DUNU Arashi dares to challenge the status quo, blending planar speed with dynamic depth for a uniquely immersive experience. These open-back headphones deliver a rich, full-bodied sound signature with exquisite layering, striking a rare balance between high-energy precision and lush musicality. While sensitive for a Planar, we found our music had more vitality and spirit with desktop power over a portable source.

Beyond the sonic performance, Arashi’s craftsmanship is just as compelling. The headphones feature a lightweight yet durable build, with plush ear pads and a sleek metal frame that provide both comfort and style. Whether you’re sinking into a long listening session or dissecting the nuances of your favorite tracks, Arashi offers an experience that’s as refined as its design.

DUNU set out to redefine planar expectations, and with the Arashi, they may have just done it while taking a seat at the table alongside the best planar magnetic headphones.

Beautiful headphones with a unique sound signature!

DUNU's first pair of over ear headphones are largely successful in my eyes. They have a stunning aesthetic paired with a uniquely wide, detailed, and fast sound signature that supports a tremendously deep bass response.

Pros:
- Stunning design and premium quality build.
- Beautiful packaging and unboxing experience.
- Giant ear pad circumference with an angled depth to enhance the seal. These are seriously the most well designed headphones I've worn in terms of fit and feel.
- A shockingly wide sound stage with great imaging and micro detail textures. The stage describes the Arashi's name well -- like a huge and thunderous summer storm rolling through. Both daunting and majestic at the same time.
- Fast and deep sound signature coming from the planar drivers.
- Very natural sound with great dynamics for modern music genres.
- 3.5mm sockets for easy access to aftermarket cables.

Cons:
- The upper mids and lower treble regions are a bit shouty and bright for my preferences but this can be improved with EQ.
- I wish there was a little bit more to the dynamics here. but again its a planar driver. So if you like how planars sound, this is perfect for you, as it is an amazing implementation of a planar magnetic diaphragm.
- This may be a pro for some people as the headphones are very comfortable, but there is little to no clamping force. Which makes them slip off your head pretty easily.
- The headband adjustment mechanism feels a bit janky and cheap compared to the rest of the Arashi's rock solid and beautiful construction.

I listened to these on the Cayin HA-2A, Fiio K17, Fosi Audio K7, and Shanling M8T across a variety of genres and felt that overall it pairs well with just about any equipment. Its not source dependent like many other planars in my experience. Though I did enjoy them most on ultra linear mode from the Shanling M8T.

While there is room for improvement here, especially with the headband adjustment mechanism, the Arashi is otherwise an extremely unique and beautifully designed headphone for its price category.
