Not quite what I was expecting.Much better. The bass is full but not overpowering giving them a well balanced sound. Very happy with my purchase.
I picked up the FatFreq Maestro Mini expecting great bass… but I honestly didn’t expect it to be this good overall. The bass is absolutely incredible — deep, powerful, and insanely fun without feeling sloppy. It hits hard but still stays controlled, which makes everything from electronic to hip-hop sound amazing.
What really surprised me though was how clear everything else is. Usually when an IEM leans this hard into bass, you lose detail in the mids and highs. Not here. Vocals are clean, instruments come through clearly, and the whole presentation still feels balanced and detailed.
The Maestro Mini somehow manages to deliver huge, satisfying bass and impressive clarity at the same time. If you’re a bass lover but still want a clear, engaging sound, these are an easy recommendation.
These are first off, gorgeous. They really are mini and the case's blue swirl effect is stunning. Sound wise, they are very good but not the bass monsters that I thought they would be. I have the devialet Gemini 2 and the moondrop variations which honestly have comparable bass to these.. not quite as good, but comparable, and I still felt myself wanting a bit more.. And then I tried the Scarlet minis, and they broke me.
So if you are buying these for the bass hype, depending what you're coming from, you might get everything you want cause they are great! And I wanted to like these the most because they are so beautiful... But the Scarlets are just better at everything throughout the band and you can't eq the maestro to get a scarlet.
First purchase at bloom and their help was stellar.
After 2 months of use, the Maestro Minis are the closest I've gotten to subwoofers in my ear but the neat thing is that they still retain detail in the midst and highs. Fantastic for sub-bass heavy genres like edm and rap but still versatile enough for stuff like rock, though I wish it had a bit more mid-bass for drum kicks.
Mids and vocals come through nice and clear with good body without getting muddied by the low end which is surprising considering the amount of low end presented.
Highs and treble imo are on the smoother side and while I wish they had more sparkle, I'm not trying to venture into sibilant territory.
All in all, for a sub-$500 iem- this isn't going to be a detail monster but it's perfectly serviceable and more importantly, a great amount of fun.
Thanks Bloom.
I tried the Maestro Mini at CanJam SoCal almost a year ago, and while I liked them I didn't have the funds to buy them at the time. I finally ordered them, only to find out that they were still slightly too large to use for more than 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. However, since I'm an outlier in terms of fit the rest of my review will focus on sound and quality.
Build quality seems good on the IEMs themselves, but the stock cable has a couple annoyances. First, and least problematic, there was a tiny bit of flashing on the 2-pin connectors that wasn't sanded off after molding (but you have to look closely to spot it). Another minor annoyance is the fact that the connector is right angled, which makes for a less clean look when using an extension at the computer. A more noticeable problem is minor driver flex on both sides, but as it only happens on insertion it's not too big a deal. The major problem is the chin slider. It simply doesn't stay put, and it's something I always use, so if the IEMs had fit me I would have had to buy a new cable to go with them. According to other reviews the upgrade cables Fatfreq sells have a similar problem.
As for sound, they're very good and much more balanced than the Scarlet Mini (which I also tried at CanJam). I still think my favorite sounding Fatfreq IEM (of the ones I was able to fit in my ears) is the Deuce, but the Maestro Mini came closer to fitting properly and has a bit more treble.
Bloom Audio was easy to work with on the return, and since the restocking fee and return shipping were clearly stated in their easy to find return policy I didn't get any nasty surprises. My only nitpick is that they didn't tell me how much the return shipping label cost, but based on subtracting the restocking fee from the refund amount return shipping was pretty inexpensive (in fact it was surprisingly low, I highly recommend letting them send you a label if you have to make a return rather than paying the consumer rate to ship it yourself).
