Dual Raytheon JAN6418 Tubes

The AMP16 is engineered with two Raytheon JAN6418 directly heated vacuum tubes, which are celebrated for their compact dimensions, low power consumption, and exceptional operational stability. Unlike the majority of portable audio devices that typically rely on 9V or 12V power supplies, the AMP16 is equipped with a specialized 22.5V anode power supply tailored specifically for the JAN6418 tubes. This elevated voltage configuration enhances performance by providing increased headroom, allowing the tubes to operate at their optimal potential.

The dual JAN6418 tubes imbue the AMP16 with a distinctively analog sonic character, characterized by a warm, relaxed, and velvety "tube flavor" that enriches the listening experience. As a result, the AMP16 delivers a truly immersive analog musical journey.

Tube and Class AB Output Modes

Selectable Tube Flavor + Opamp Clarity

In addition to its TUBE output mode, the AMP16 features a Class AB amplification circuit, enabling users to seamlessly switch between these two output configurations. In TUBE mode, the sound is characterized by its sweet and warm tonal qualities, showcasing the exceptional characteristics of vacuum tubes. Conversely, Class AB mode offers enhanced resolution and excellent dynamic range.

* It is important to note that due to the inherent sensitivity of the tubes, the AMP16 may exhibit slight microphonic effects in TUBE mode. Tapping the chassis while music is paused may produce a ringing sound, which is a normal phenomenon associated with tube amplification. Additionally, users might experience occasional interference from mobile devices. However, all of these are not noticeable when listening to music.

* In Class AB mode, such microphonic effects, interference noises, and background disturbances do not exist, providing a clean and wonderfully detailed sound profile.

The AMP16 is a remarkable fusion of technology and design, featuring 2pcs Raytheon tubes + 4pcs TI high-performance dual OPAMPs + 4pcs BUF634A, all within a beautifully compact form factor. This isn’t just engineering; it’s a precisely crafted audio structure that represents the pinnacle of sound quality. With meticulously selected capacitors, the AMP16 delivers an unparalleled audio experience. 

JRC Volume Control

The 100 step JRC volume control not only adjusts the volume but also simultaneously reduces the potential noise of the vacuum tubes. This effectively minimizes the background noise. 

Tube Selection With APX555

The manufacturing process for vacuum tubes inherently involves certain limitations, resulting in minor variations among individual units. To ensure that any discrepancies in sound quality between each JAN6418 tube remain within acceptable limits, iBasso employs APX555 audio testing equipment for comprehensive SINAD pairing prior to utilizing each pair in production. Given the rigorous nature of their testing protocols, iBasso is able to produce a maximum of 50 tube pairings per day. This meticulous approach is aimed at delivering the highest quality audio output possible.

PORON Suspension

After extensive experimentation, iBasso has successfully adopted a "hanging" installation method using PORON material to suspend the tubes within the chassis. This innovative approach effectively achieves shock absorption while significantly mitigating the microphonic effect.
