I was honestly surprised by this dongle DAC. The last dongle/USB DAC I had was the Dragonfly Black and the Qudelix 5K, but both of them weren’t really the best in terms of sound quality. Both being a bit sharp and lifeless. The functionality of the Qudelix 5K was awesome, but with eq turned on, I noticed the note weight would usually take a big hit.
Enter the Crinear Dongle. It is noticeably better in terms of sound quality and note weight. Although Crinacle’s website is not as built up as the Qudelix app, it has its own conveniences in that you can push eq presets with a click of one button. Once eq is applied, I noticed a smaller hit on note weight and transient than with the 5K. All in all, very solid for the price.
Also Bloom never disappoints in their service. I received some candies with my package. What an awesome company!
CrinEar Protocol Max | Portable DAC and Amp
The Crinear Protocol Max presents a very strong value proposition for its price inside a very compact and premium-feeling presentation.
This little thing can drive just about everything but the very most demanding headphones. (It drives my Hifiman Susvara for reference.)
There has been no noticeable distortion for me during all of my testing on different headphones and IEMs.
The ability to EQ from your browser is a blessing as-is and the announcement by Crinear that they’re working on a dedicated EQ-ing webpage as well as an android app only makes it better.
I knew I wanted to try it no matter what but this will likely be my new daily-use DAC over what I already own.
And as always I could not be happier with Bloom Audio when it comes to shipping and customer care, no one does it like Bloom.
