Bloom's Take iBasso is best known for their DAPs and select portable DAC / Amps. But we feel they have proven their ability to create great-sounding IEMs and headphones as well. The new SR3 open-back successor to the SR2 which was well-regarded for its comfort and balanced sound signature, looks almost identical in terms of the frame and ear cups, but features more noticeable changes under the hood. iBasso uses a new bio-cellulose driver making it a bit tougher to drive, and a layer of mesh grill is removed making it sound more open. It also includes a 4.4mm balanced cable, a welcome addition given its increased impedance. SR3’s bass is linear with good extension, the mids are lush with a natural feeling, and the highs have a touch of extra sizzle but roll off in the upper ranges, albeit without losing that crisp and resolving nature. The soundstage is wide, and the stereo image feels immersive. The SR3 delivers great technical performance and has a well-balanced, non-fatiguing sound. We feel the headphone really exceeds expectation and delivers a surprising premium sound given its price. |
High Definition Audiophile Headphones
The SR3 is a high definition, open back headphone that meets the requirements of a high quality audiophile monitor. It combines the strength of the silicone suspension drivers for a headphone, with Tesla magnetic flux technology, and bio-cellulose dome diaphragms. The superb elasticity of the silicone surround in tandem with the powerful Tesla flux produces a very powerful sound while retaining excellent micro details.
These qualities contribute to the ability of the SR3 to function as an excellent audiophile monitor with the ability to retrieve the full scope of the music with all the detail intact. The soft and conforming ear pads and adjustable leather headband invite long listening sessions and the high quality detachable cable adds to the ease of changing cables for any amplifier.
