Ummm... Wow...
This set has some MONSTROUS bass and an excellent soundstage!
Simply put, this is one of the funnest and most immersive IEMs I have heard.
A+ implementation of the BC.
Great with EDM, Pop, Hip-Hop, Rock and modern bass-heavy music.
It trades a bit of technicality for musicality, but I dig the **** out of these.
HIGHLY, highly, highly REC'D!
I've been eyeing these since they came out but finally committed to the purchase recently. Since I got them, they've quickly become my favorite IEM in my rotation, and honestly remind me a lot of the AudioQuest Nighthawks in IEM form.
They're bass-heavy and while they're not detail monsters, there is still enough air in the treble for details to come through. To my ears, vocals don't sound recessed. Perhaps mildly, at worst. Imaging is great and the soundstage is pretty impressive. The way the audio is presented is extremely engaging and visceral, yet smooth and never fatiguing.
For reference my library is mostly 90s/00s hip-hop and various metal from the 80s on. Horror games with good audio design like Alien: Isolation are also fantastic on this set.
Too much bass for me
These truly took me by surprise. The finish and quality is incredible and far exceeded my expectations. If you're worried about the theme ornate finish, put that aside. In person, they feel super premium and you will definitely be impressed with the fit and finish. The sound is detailed, full, and defined. I have a good number of IEMs in my collection, and these are now up near the top for my go to pair. They scale with source and power, and I'm hearing parts of music I don't often hear -- even with more expensive headphones. Highly recommended!
I think the Aegis is criminally underrated with what you get for the price. Although it’s technically a two driver IEM, realistically it’s a single full range DD with a BCD enhancing everything the DD does. So, you get all the benefits of a single driver IEM. The bass is tight and controlled. The BCD makes the bass big and wide, without any boominess. The mids benefit from the BCD even more, and really stand out. The highs don’t have the airiness or sparkle of an electrostatic, but still sound good for a bass head set. There’s also a surprising amount of detail. It’s worth noting the Aegis is not a Legion missing the electret driver. It uses a different DD than the Legion, made specifically for the Aegis. There’s a lot more I could say, but this is long enough already. The Aegis is easily my favorite bass head IEM right now. It’s just fun to listen to for not only the right music, but movies and games too. Being under $500 is a steal. My review is based on a listening setup consisting of a Bifrost 2 DAC, Black Ice Audio tube preamp, Asgard X class A headphone amp using the balanced output, and Divinus Wide Bore ear tips.
