There have been a ton of great new audiophile headphone releases in 2026, across a wide range of prices: from unique flagship headphones, to more affordable reference models. Whether you’re looking to dip your toes into the HiFi personal audio world with a modest budget, or you want the ultimate in craftsmanship and design, there was something new for you this year. Let’s take a closer look at your options!
Best New Headphones Under $1,000
Thieaudio Cypher: $399
Thieaudio Cypher is an open-back dynamic driver headphone featuring impressive construction and sound. The Cypher’s build, package, and accessories all point towards a much higher price tag. For $399 you get an all metal construction, with a comfortable, ergonomic design. The included case and cables are also very impressive for the price. Cypher delivers a reference sound with enough musicality to keep the listener engaged. Cypher also manages the trick of being both revealing and just relaxed enough to not become fatiguing.
DUNU Mortise: $429.99
DUNU Mortise is another open-back dynamic driver headphone in the same price range, but where Cypher aims for a more precise, reference sound, Mortise focuses on timbre and emotional delivery. Mortise also offers excellent build quality, with wood earcups, and soft, well-cushioned earpads. Mortise’s natural timbre and emotional vocal delivery makes it excel with genres that focus on emotionality and smaller ensembles, like jazz, folk, classic rock, or more intimate pop recordings.
Meze Strada: $799
Meze Strada serves as a closed back companion to the beloved Meze 109 Pro. With Strada, Meze delivers their signature refined visual design, along with the balanced warmth and emotional resonance that defines their sound. Strada borrows from the Meze Liric II’s visual design, with the same chassis and similar wood cups, but Strada adds distinctive green accents. All together, Strada gives you a glimpse of flagship luxury for under $1000.
Dan Clark Audio AEON Core: $899.99
Dan Clark Audio’ AEON series was always somewhere in between a true “budget” option and the insanely high prices of high-end flagship headphones, but as prices climbed, what had been one of the best value planar magnetic headphone series went up to over $1000 with the Noire X. AEON Core makes some minor sacrifices to the classic AEON design, but doesn’t compromise on sound, bringing classic Dan Clark Audio tuning and performance down under $1000. AEON Core, remains one of the most comfortable options out there and delivers an impeccably balanced planar magnetic performance while rolling back the price.
Best New Headphones Under $2,000
Final DX4000 CL: $999
While I’ve never designed a headphone myself, it seems like the biggest challenge for closed-back headphones is managing the bass. Put a little too much in there, and you end up with a boomy mess, but turn the bass dial down one notch too far and you end up sounding flat and anemic. DX4000 CL strikes up a perfect balance, offering a closed-back dynamic headphone with plenty of impact and slam, with a nice amount of warmth that never feels bloated or overbearing. You also get Final Audio’s legendary build quality, and a highly comfortable fit.
Austrian Audio Arranger: $1299
The Austrian Audio Arranger fills an important gap in Austrian Audio's lineup, sitting between the company's affordable Hi-X models and the pricier flagship Composer. Arranger copies elements of Composer’s chassis and driver design to deliver a comfortable fit and clean, reference sound. Arranger’s sound walks the line between audiophile and studio, sometimes leaning a little further onto the studio side, but always presenting an accurate, engaging sound that’s sure to please listeners looking for a more detailed, revealing headphone that doesn’t leave their ears fatigued.
Audeze MM-520: $1699
Audeze’s MM series is a collaboration between the brand and Grammy-winning engineer Mandy Marroquin. As such, you end up with headphones that, again, lean a little bit more towards the needs of mixing and mastering than to audiophiles at home. But, if one of the main goals of HiFi sound is hearing music the way the artist envisioned it, or the way it sounded in the studio, then it’s easy to see why pro audio headphones like MM-520 might appeal to audiophiles. These planar-magnetic, open-back headphones offer a fast, engaging sound that’s clean and accurate with excellent imaging and soundstage presentation, that gets you one step closer to being behind the mixboard.
HIFIMAN HE6 Remastered: $1899
The original HIFIMAN HE6 was one of the pioneers of audiophile planar magnetic headphones, demonstrating to listeners what the technology was capable of. While there have been many revisions and alternate versions throughout the years, HE6 Remastered looks to be the most definitive. HE6 Remastered maintains the heart of the original’s tuning, while reducing the weight and improving the construction and comfort of the headphones. While you need a beastly amp to drive HE6 Remastered, with the right setup, you can get performance that gives you a taste of HIFIMAN’s $6000 flagship Susvara for a fraction of the price.
Best New Flagship Headphones
Audeze LCD-5S: $4500
While Audeze's MM series sticks with a reference framework for its tuning, their classic LCD series has a bit more freedom to prioritize engagement and listening in the design. Their newest flagship, LCD-5S, still sticks close to reference territory but it adds a richness and depth to the bass that really brings tracks alive – especially with rock, pop, and hip hop recordings. The combination of brilliant technical delivery and extreme clarity, with a massive, hard hitting low end, really helps LCD-5S stand out among the crowd of more reference leaning flagship headphones.
Meze ARTA: $6000
Meze Audio always impresses with their incredible visual designs and the craftsmanship of their headphones, but they don’t always get the credit they deserve for the work they’ve done with Rinaro Isodynamics to push driver technology forward. Their newest flagship, ARTA, features a newly designed driver with the highest impedance of any planar magnetic driver ever. The benefit of the increased impedance is combining the technical prowess of planar magnetic tech with a more natural, dynamic sound without compromising on clarity. ARTA has a combination of some of Meze’s best tuning work with their most technically impressive performance yet.
The Bottom Line
While often it seems like IEMs take center stage with impressive new releases, 2026 showed that there’s still a lot of space out there for new headphones. With impressive new releases from bands all over the world, with all kinds of different tunings and designs, there just might be a new HiFi headphone for anyone who loves music.
