Best New DACs and Amps of 2026

Best New DACs and Amps of 2026

While some might argue about whether or not having an expensive DAC or Amp is worth it, most audiophiles and HiFi audio enthusiasts would agree that to get the most out of your headphones, you’re going to need something better than the 3.5mm dongle that came with your phone and better than the headphone jack in your iPad or laptop. Audiophile brands know this as well as anyone, and it often seems like they constantly unleash an endless firehose of new DACs, Amps, and portable dongles that’s just too much to keep up with. To help you make some sense of it all, we’ve compiled our list of the best new DACs, Amp, and DAC/Amp combos of 2026, ranging from $10 to $4000.

Best New Portable DAC/Amps

CrinEar Protocol Micro: $10

When you say that an audiophile product is good, and then you say that it’s $10, you’re bound to get some funny looks, but CrinEar Protocol Micro manages to deliver across the board for less than the cost of a value meal at McDonalds. Protocol Micro isn’t going to give you any more output power than your average dongle, but it provides surprisingly good sound quality and an 8-band EQ that can save multiple profiles for different headphones or IEMs. While it’s limited to only 3.5mm output and USB-C input, the compact size means that you get all the convenience of the classic Apple Dongle with improved features and sound.

  • Digital Input: USB-C
  • Output: 3.5mm
  • DAC Chipset: SPV4040
  • Maximum Output: 30mW @ 32 ohms

iBasso DC-Tonfa: $359

If you’re looking for power and sound quality over simplicity and features, the iBasso DC-Tonfa offers smooth, refined R2R sound that fits in your pocket. iBasso crammed an impressive amount of tech into a highly pocketable form factor with a fully differential discrete R2R DAC controlled through an FPGA for digital processing, and precision oscillators for a balance of natural sonic delivery and pinpoint precision. The device itself feels premium and iBasso provides a magnetic case that can attach DC-Tonfa right onto the back of any phone with a magnetic back. DC-Tonfa features solid power for the form factor as well, and can drive a pretty good range of headphones and IEMs with plenty of impact and dynamics.

  • Digital Input: USB-C
  • Output: 3.5mm SE and 4.4mm BAL
  • DAC Chipset: Discrete R2R
  • Maximum Output: 800mW @ 32 ohms

iFi iDSD GR2: $529

The iFi xDSD Gryphon was one of our favorite portable DAC/Amps for years, but with fresh new options coming out regularly, it was clear that it was time for an upgrade. The new GR2 takes everything we loved about the original Gryphon, refines it, and adds more features on top. GR2 has some of the most advanced digital processing options that you can find in this price point along with improved versions of popular features like xBass and xSpace. None of that would matter if the core sound wasn’t great, and – to no one’s surprise – it is. GR2 features a highly natural, organic sound, an array of features for tweaking it to your preference and plenty of power to drive almost any headphones.

  • Digital Inputs: USB-C, Bluetooth 5.4, Optical/Coax S/PDIF
  • Analog Inputs: 3.5mm SE and 4.4mm BAL
  • Analog Outputs: 3.5mm SE and 4.4mm BAL Line and Headphone outputs
  • DAC Chipset: Burr-Brown PCM1795
  • Maximum Output: 1513mW @ 32 ohms BAL, 567mW @ 32 ohms SE

Best Desktop DAC/amp Combos

TOPPING DX1 II: $119

If you’re listening to music at home: whether at your computer or in your bedroom, you can get a noticeable upgrade in sound and performance with a dedicated desktop unit over something portable. The Topping DX1 II (that is to say, the second generation of the DX1) is a great example of something small and simple that can elevate your listening experience without making you think too hard about it. In addition to being a great choice for a dedicated headphone listening setup, you can also connect powered speakers to easily switch between the two. It also has a UAC mode switch to provide better compatibility with gaming consoles and handheld devices.

  • Digital Inputs: USB-C, Optical
  • Digital Outputs: Optical
  • Analog Outputs: 6.3mm SE and 4.4mm BAL headphone, RCA L/R and 4.4mm line/preamp
  • DAC Chipset: ESS ES9039Q2M
  • Maximum Output: 1000mw @ 32 ohms BAL, 510mW @ 32 ohms SE

D&A Alpha: $399

D&A Alpha was one of my biggest surprises of the year. At a glance it’s a pretty basic mid-range desktop DAC/Amp, but when you actually get to using it, you discover impressive sound quality and power output for the price, along with a solid feature set, and some cool little extras. The power is the real star of the show here, and D&A Alpha is quite possibly the best option under $500 for driving the hardest to drive headphones on the market right now, and it simply sounds good doing it. What adds a little bit of an extra standout there is that it looks good doing it too. D&A Alpha adds some fun and tasteful visualizations that elevate the listening experience just a little higher than the already excellent performance.

  • Digital Inputs: USB-C, Optical, Coax, Bluetooth
  • Analog Outputs: 6.3mm SE and 4.4mm BAL headphone, RCA L/R and XLR L/R line/preamp
  • Maximum Output: 9000mW @ 32Ω BAL, 2500mW @ 32Ω SE

FiiO K17 R2R: $989

FiiO K17 DAC and amp in silver front interface closeup left 3 quarter angleR2R DACs are becoming more and more popular thanks to the smooth, natural sound they provide. The FiiO K17 gives you a great amp section, basic streaming features, and EQ options, and the new R2R version adds the organic sound of a 24+5bit Segmented R2R PRO Resistor Array. K17 R2R is a true all in one that can deliver a full audio stack in a single unit with a very cool vintage vibe to the design, and plenty of power for your headphones.

  • Digital Inputs: USB-C, Optical, Coax, Bluetooth 5.1, Ethernet
  • Digital Outputs: Optical, Coax
  • Analog Inputs: RCA L/R
  • Analog Outputs: 6.3mm SE, 4.4mm BAL, and 4-pin XLR BAL Headphone, RCA L/R and XLR L/R Line/Pre

Cayin ID6: $1899

Cayin has developed a strong following specifically for their amps, but they’ve also delivered strong products on the digital side with their DAPs and products like the Cayin iDAC. With the ID6, Cayin offers a fully integrated all in one, with advanced streaming options, expandable storage, and a range of connectivity that culminates in a hybrid tube design. While you might be able to find better streamers or amps for the price, nothing beats ID6 for the singular all-in-one experience at the price.

  • Digital Inputs: USB-C, Optical, Coax, WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, HDMI
  • Digital Outputs: Optical, Coax, HDMI, USB-A
  • Analog Outputs: 6.3mm SE and 4.4mm BAL headphone, RCA L/R and XLR L/R line/preamp

Best New Flagship DAC

Weiss DAC204-MK2: $3990

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum of the Cayin ID6 is a device like the Weiss DAC204-MK2. DAC204-MK2 does one thing, and it does it to near perfection: convert digital audio input to analog audio output. The barebones design hides incredibly precise, studio-inspired conversion under the hood. The MK2 version improves the digital connectivity and upgrades the DAC chip to the ES9028PRO. If you don’t want bells, whistles, or any kind of additional DSP or processing DAC204-MK2 offers maximum detail and precision in your conversion.

  • Digital Inputs: USB-B, Optical, Coax, AES
  • Analog Outputs: RCA L/R, XLR L/R (Line output only, no headphone or preamp)

Best New Flagship Headphone Amplifier

Cayin HA-300 MK3: $4399

Cayin HA-300MK2 | Flagship Desktop Tube Headphone Amplifier-Bloom Audio

Cayin has a number of tube amps that all look pretty similar that, on the surface, just have some minor differences in the tube complements or smaller design elements. In addition to the visual differences, as you climb up the lineup, you also see incremental improvements in the refinement and performance. At $4399 HA-300 MK3 provides flagship performance, with enough power to drive the most challenging headphones, and a perfect balance between raw power and speed and dynamics that are almost shocking coming from a tube amp. Along with that, you get optimizations to provide a flagship experience with IEMs as well as headphones.

  • Analog Inputs: RCA L/R, XLR L/R
  • Analog Outputs: 6.3mm SE, 4.4mm BAL, and 4-pin headphone, Banana plugs for speakers
