Kiwi Ears Ellipse

Driven by a passion for high-fidelity sound, the Ellipse brings together advanced engineering and expertly refined tuning to offer a next-level listening experience. Additionally, the lightweight, ergonomic build with plush vegan-leather ear pads ensure all-day comfort. The Kiwi Ears Ellipse is perfect for audiophiles seeking Hi-Fi sound with floor standing speaker-like tuning in headphone form.

True High-Fidelity Sound

The Ellipse is built around a premium 50mm dynamic driver, engineered to deliver exceptional audio quality. The driver features custom-made PU and PEK composite diaphragms with an ultra-pure copper ring. It is powered by a custom CCAW high-tension voice coil and strong N42 high-performance magnets.

Speaker-Like Tuning

The driver and the headphone housing acoustics are meticulously tuned to achieve a balanced and natural sound. The lows deliver a strong impact with sensational rumble and body. The low-mids offer rich warmth without bloat, along with accurate vocal and instrument tonality. The trebles are compensated to match the human ear’s acoustics, mirroring the perceived tonal balance of stereo speakers. The Ellipse’s tuning profile is ideal for those who want to sit back and immerse themselves in their music.

Open-Back Design

To provide a life-like soundstage and imaging performance, the Ellipse is designed as an open-back headphone. This open-back design allows greater airflow into the drivers, enhancing the depth of the lows, adding airiness to the trebles, and creating a wider soundstage. While open-back headphones have lower outside-noise isolation, they remain the most proven way to achieve a stereo speaker-like musical experience.

Comfortable and Versatile Design

Ellipse is a lightweight headphone, designed for extended listening sessions. The headband features thick padding made of vegan leather, while the vegan leather earpads are specially designed to enhance the bass response of the drivers, offering both plush comfort and improved performance.

The Ellipse features a detachable cable design with a 3.5mm plug and a 6.35mm adapter. Keeping versatility in mind, this design allows users to customize their sound and wearing experience, adapt to different devices, and extend the longevity of the headphones.

Phenomenal Budget Cans!

I’ve had these on my radar for a few weeks. I read and watched reviews, and most are mixed. Many reviews refer to these as “dark” with bloated bass and a considerable dip in the upper mids and lower highs. And some reviews say they are neutral, and others say they are hands down the best budget (under $100) open back headphones. I definitely am in the latter category. I love the dark relaxed sound of the Kinera Celeste Wyvern Black (Abyss) iem’s, so I thought if these were dark and relaxed, like those, they would be good, and I wouldn’t mind them. I have the Sennheiser HD 559’s. While good for gaming, not so much for music. So I got these. I can say, they have some darkness to them, but they are far from what some of the reviews are saying. I find them rather balanced with a slight emphasis on the upper highs, lower mids and mid to low bass. They do have some sub bass rumble, which is not common to open backs. However, not prominent, and comes through when the music really calls for it. The mids are not veiled by the bass either, so I don’t detect any boominess. The dark(ish)ness comes from the recessed upper mids and lower treble, however, they don’t feel lacking. Male vocals sound slightly thicker, and female vocals don’t really have any emphasis, nor are they too recessed either. As these aren’t “airy”, they do have a more intimate soundstage. The instrument separation is good for the price. It does open up a bit when I use my Ifi Zen Air dac. Comfort is on another level. The padding on the headband is thick and plush. The earcups are the same with plenty of room to fit entirely around my ears, and deep enough so my ears don’t touch the padding over the drivers. They don’t feel inexpensive either. A nice mix of aluminum alloy (I think) and plastic. Metal where it matters. They do feel sturdy and are not as lightweight as I thought they would b, but by no means heavy. The included cable does reflect the price, however. And it’s 3 meters long! An aftermarket cable can take care of that. The Tripowin GranVia or the Nova are good options. As an all-rounder, sub $100 open back headphone, these are simply amazing.
