Pleasantly surprised with how Fatfreq was able to create such an amazing IEM with deep bass rumble and yet a nearly perfect mid and high resolution. Fantastic IEM, I feel like I'm listening to my library for the first time again.

Like being in the Blue Note club

I listen mostly to my Jazz station on Live One app. Though I'll also try with BSO live broadcasts on Classical.org. These are by far the best IEMs in my meager collection. I'm using them through a Shanling UA3 from a Google Pixel 8. Thank you Bloom, FF and HBB!

This is gonna be one of the greats…

So today someone at the Post Office dropped a Deuce in my mailbox and I’m not mad about it.

So for context I do own bot Maestro Mini and Scarlet Mini sets as well as the iKKo OH10 and BLON BL-03. However I wouldn’t call myself a basshead, I favor clean midrange and to have as much detail as humanly possible. I don’t care about the sound signature as long as it delivers midrange and as much details as they can.

This set is not a replacement for Maestro Mini or Scarlet Mini…it’s really close though. I can’t believe I’m saying this but those two sets have a smidge more treble extension than the Deuce. Likely due to the BA’s, but the midrange is definitely identical in my perception.

The bass is just as egregious and big..BIG.!! Without bleeding into the mids. The Mini’s do have a few more technical attributes in detail, seperation and layering. The tone and toe tapping fun is equally as good though, but not superior. My preorder came with the impedance adapter and that just makes the set feel more like a light Scarlet Mini. What the impedance adapter does do is slightly and I mean slightly…I perceive it to pillow the bass texture.

This set likes POWER…fortunately I ordered the balanced version. Now I don’t run desktop setups, because I don’t listen to IEM’s at a desk. I’m mobile with my IEM’s so that means my dongle DAC’s.

My 4.4mm favorite's were the FiiO BTR7, FiiO KA15, Shanling UA3, Questyle M15, Lotoo PAW S2 and the teenie tiny ddHiFi TC44 Pro M2 Gen3.1. My least favorite was the Moondrop Moonriver 2:Ti it was thin..paper thin. The okay but not great probably too warn, but they are the ifi GoBar Kensei and Cayin RU7.

I converted the 4.4mm to a 2.5mm to run the Hidizs S9 Pro same as the Moondrop it was thin. I also used some single ended guys too. Audioquest Dragonflies Cobalt and Red were good, but you’re pushing more than half the volume. The THX Onyx no problem best in my opinion for this set in single ended. The Questyle M12 was capable but again pushing about 70% so little headroom to play with.

Now music……

So it playback of 90’s R&B was amazing and most of that decades Hip Hop too. The piano melody of Blackstreet No Diggity was perfect.

Chaotic music such as heavy metal wasn’t bad just not as good as the Mini’s presentation. NuMetal however such as Linkin Park, Slipknot and Modern Marilyn Manson…great.

Pop music was good if you don’t really know the highs of the tracks in detail. K-Pop was presented well. Multi singer groups I could identify the individual artists in each song well enough. The bass.in Blinding Lights by The Weeknd came across natural and pleasing. His duet with Ariana Grande in Save My Tears was clean.

Rock music…Queens of the Stone Age felt congested and veiled, but Tool “The Pot” slammed hard..ROCK HARD.!!! Now 80’s hair metal was pretty cool on this set.

Now some civilized music. The strings and brass section in A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke….mmm chefs kiss. In the track Move on Up by Curtis Mayfield I was able to hear the pianos which is very faint even on reference sets.

The shell is larger than the Mini’s, but that just means it’s average. I so prefer the deeper fit of the Maestro and Scarlet Mini’s though.

The Deuce is 85% of the Maestro Mini and with the impedance adapter it’s 90% Scarlet Mini. Best entry point to buy into the FatFreq family. The case however is micro machine size. It’s gonna be a tight fit if you also wanna carry your adapter. I will likely order the FatBox on FatFreq site.

No Ragrets on purchasing this. I would do it again. It’s inexpensive enough to even be a gift, that’s if you’re gift budget is near $300.
