Achieve Highly Musical and Well-extended Sound with Feliks Audio's Echo MKII Headphone Tube Amp

  • A great introduction to tube sound but with Feliks quality
  • Warm “tubey” sound with plenty of detail, easy listening at its best
  • Handcrafted, beautiful metal and walnut wood side panels
  • Incredibly detailed presentation, very low noise levels, minimal AC interference

Bloom's Take

Feliks Audio has a reputation for building OTL and Tube headphone amps that look great but sound even better. The entry point is the Echo MKII OTL tube amp at just over a grand which gives off cool vibes and sports a simple design. Its walnut trim would blend comfortably alongside vintage headphone gear, but would also fit aesthetically with modern systems. The warm glow of the tubes looks great when fired up as well. The Echo sports a 6.3mm jack and has decent power for a tube amp at 350mW. You get the inherent “tubey” sound you want but without sacrificing accuracy or transparency.

We think the Echo MK2 is the perfect introduction to the Feliks line of crafted tube amps with its attention to detail and craftsmanship. However, if you’re more budget conscious and looking for an Endgame setup for headphones such as the Meze 109 Pro or Sennheiser HD 660S2, Echo MK2 won’t disappoint.

Feliks Audio's Brilliant Entry-level Performer

The Echo MK II is an output transformer-less (OTL) headphone amplifier and preamplifier featuring stock Russian 6N6P and 6N1P tubes. Despite being Feliks’ entry-level amplifier, the Echo is no slouch when it comes to presenting a highly musical and well-extended sound. The Echo is slightly warm, smooth, intimate, and laid-back, flattering a wide range of headphones.

These qualities, in addition to incredible build quality and brilliant engineering, amount to an amplifier that performs far beyond its class. It is fully handmade, and the headphone sweet spot is for medium to high impedance headphones (from 100 Ω.) It can also be used as a tube preamp for both tube and solid-state amplifiers.

Echo MK II Features

  • Broad frequency response
  • Gold-plated ceramic tube sockets, and custom-made stabilized toroidal transformer with electronic ripple suppression
  • Input and output safeguards eliminating power on / off noises

Excellent amp, even for planars

This is my first tube amp and I am having a great time with it. I’m primarily driving my Stellias and Empyreans, both of which (on paper) shouldn’t be driven well but I’m enjoying them both very much!

Most enjoyable

I have spent many hours enjoying my new amp since it arrived. It really brings high impedance headphones to life - headphone sets that I had already found quite enjoyable to use with a Schiit Audio Valhalla 2 OTL amp. I have tried the stock tubes that came with the Echo II and find them relatively neutral but still quite detailed. No matter what tubes I roll into the Echo II, I find its sound to be spacious/wide in terms of the soundstage, and hear much improved detail in both the treble and bass over my Valhalla 2. The Echo II has also proved to be a nice match for the Audeze LCD-XC headphones as well despite their 20ohm impedance - the Valhalla just can’t seem to power them properly (which you’d expect from an OTL tube amp) but so far they respond well to this Feliks amp, much to my surprise and delight.

The amp arrived inside an expertly packaged factory box with ample stiff foam and a thoughtful layout. Well done!

The look and feel of the amp borders on luxurious and speaks to the love and care this company puts into their amps. The wood grain is beautiful and perfectly understated without being obnoxious. The Alps potentiometer feels fluid when adjusted and provides quite a lot of gain even with 300ohm headphones - it also has a great tactile feel between your fingers due to the (powder?) coating that also covers the chassis.

I began to immediately wonder to myself, “If this is their ‘budget amp’, what do their more expensive offerings sound like?!”

I’m also loving the Echo II as a preamp for my system as it seems to provide a tad more depth than I’m used to.

Bloom provided great service and shipped with lightning speed. I feel like I got a little more than what I paid for here.
